As maligned as Haiti has been, any forward thinking person of color owes Haiti and Haitians a Debt.

We have a debt to Haiti, because Haiti has been paying the price for their freedom. They have been paying ever since they permanently put to rest the notion blacks are not physically, mentally, or spiritually able to fight for their humanity.

Haiti has paid the price because they redrew the map of freedom, inspiring and providing military aid to revolutionaries who went on to liberate most of South America--with the sole condition that they permanently abolish slavery. The Haitian revolution did more for the abolition of slavery and reversing the trade in black bodies globally than any abolitionist ever did.

Our Debt is rooted in Haiti’s role as the vanguard of true Liberty and Self Determination in the Americas, particularly for Black people, as embodied in their Revolutionary Flag.

Our Debt extends beyond the perpetual state of condescending pity that the media encourages or that the aid-industrial complex reinforces, which both belie and undermine the resilience and resourcefulness that allowed our kin to defeat France (twice), Britain and Spain.

We have a debt to Haiti because our ancestors mandate solidarity in our common fight to defend our humanity against continuous onslaughts that won't end any time soon.

It is time for us to repay this debt. Click below to find out how.
